The Benefits of Yoga in the elderly population
Our senior population is growing rapidly, as is their interest in leading active, fit lives. On the whole, we live longer than we used to, and we all want high-quality living and good health to be a part of our older years. As we grow older, however, we typically become more susceptible to ailments that are linked to aging, and, as a result, we tend to move less. The less we move, the more susceptible we become to a variety of ailments, and so it becomes a truly vicious cycle. |

Stretching is an important part of elderly and seniors flexibility, and will help offset the effects of the normal decline in the flexibility of your joints. It will also help you remain active and independent.
As we age, muscles become shorter and lose their elasticity. Aging can affect the structure of your bones and muscles causing pain and decreased range of motion in the shoulders, spine, and hips.
It becomes very important for seniors to maintain range of motion and the ability to move all joints normally with activities during the day. |

We all know how important smoke detectors are. But, are you changing the batteries often enough and testing them regularly?
It was recommended by a fire fighter to change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year. A good way to remember when to change them is to do it when the time changes twice per year. So in the spring when we 'spring' forward and in the fall when we 'fall' back, change those batteries and do a test do ensure your detectors are working properly to keep your family as safe as possible all year long!

The Holidays
The Holidays are upon us. This time of year can be overwhelming with so much to do, so many places to go, shopping, and time spent with family and friends. One of the most important things to us during this season is spending time with family and seeing the awe on childrens faces when they see all the decorations and hear all the stories of the holidays. Even with all the things we have to be thankful for, this can be such a stressful time of year. We all try to do so much in so little time. |

It's about that time to say 'Happy Holidays'! Beginning with Halloween, we start the holiday season. It seems we get busier and busier as a nation around the holidays. There are always so many parties and festivities to participate in! Just remember to be safe during the season. This is time of the year when many people are taken advantage of, possibly more often than any other time of the year. Always research any investments you may be asked to make and when out and about shopping, be sure to keep your belongings close to you and be aware of your surroundings.
